Hi guys, and welcome back to our S&E quick tips video series, where we share helpful industry tips for you to use and incorporate into your next project!
Today's topic is about using data to make informed decisions for your website updates. So if your site is not already set up to track your web traffic and analytics that's really something that we highly recommend looking into it.
Most of our clients use Google Analytics because it's free and robust and it's really very easy to implement. Google analytics can tell you a lot about your site's visitors and their behavior. It can tell you where they're coming from, their gender, their age and also tell you about their behavior on the site.
So as they're clicking around, all those clicks are monitored and tracked, and then Google Analytics provides you a lot of different tools for generating reports on this information.
So if you have some important pages that you want people to get to, but they're not getting there and they're not among your most visited pages, that's where you can go in with Google Analytics and determine where those drop offs are occurring and then potentially make changes to your site to improve the flow of your users through the site.
So, for example, if an important page isn't getting visitors maybe you need to add more callouts to this page from the homepage or other more popular pages and then provide that crosslink over to the page that needs
more hits.
It's also really important to understand your bounce rate. So a bounce rate is a percentage of people
that come to a page but don't click or go any further. This can tell you where you might need to
add more of those call-to-actions and where you might to improve the general user flow so that people can find more relevant information and continue to click deeper into your site.
It can also be very important to understand things like social media channels people are coming through, how are they getting to your site? How much traffic is coming from mobile? All of this data can help you tailor your
site enhancements to best fit your users behaviors.
So that wraps up today's tips, tune-in next time for more information about how to dive a little deeper into leveraging this data for your web enhancements, specifically from a user experience perspective.
We'll see you then!
